Things required: List of small kids games, medals from dollar store

1.      Make a list of various games like wheelbarrow races, obstacle courses, water balloon tosses and jumping competitions etc.

2.      Choose first three positions in each category

3.      If there is tie for a position give medal both participants.

4.      Finish off the fun with a mini-Olympic awards ceremony to honor all of the athletes.

5.     Buy medals at the local dollar store or make your own with construction paper, colored pencils and string.

6.     Multiply number of gold medals won by a child with 3, number of silver medals with 2 and number of bronze medals with 1 and add all these scores for each medal category to get the final score. Let kids do this math.

7.     Kid who has highest score is ultimate winner.

Kick the Can

Things Required: an empty can, hiding place

1.      A variation on Hide and Seek, this game works best with at least three kids.

2.      One person is designated “it” and will guard the “can” which is set in an open space.

3.      While the other players hide, the “it” counts a higher number (like 20)

4.      Everyone else hides same as hide and seek.

5.      The person who counted and has been guarding “the can” runs around the neighborhood to find everyone.

6.      Once a person who is found, have a race, where the person who has just been found has to try to kick the can over before “it” does.

7.      If “itkicks the can, the hider is caught and placed in “prison” on the porch.

8.      If the hider kicks the can, she and all players in prison are free, and “it” must count again.

9.      There seems to always be those kids who will hide in a dumb, easy to discover place, with the intent of sprinting for the can if they’re caught.

10.  If the “it” finds everyone, he wins the game.

Backyard Bowling

Things Required: Items which tumble easily, Empty Boxes like Cereal Boxes, Soda Cans, and Toys etc.

1.      Find household items that will tumble over easily, such as empty cereal boxes, empty soda cans and small stuffed toys and align them in a row like bowling pins.

2.      Then, using a smaller ball for older kids and a bigger ball for the young ones, have the children roll the ball.

3.      They score a point for each object they knock down.

4.      The player who knocks down maximum things is winner.

Racing Rectangles

Required Things: Colored Chalk

1.      Draw as many columns as there are children to play.

2.      Divide each column into x number of rows depending upon how long you want to play. An ideal number can be 10 to 12. We call each column as lane.

3.      Make a start and finish line.

4.      Get a  dice [You can also have more than one Dice to speed up the game]

5.      The kids are the playing pieces.

6.      Each child chooses a number on the dice from 1 to 6.

7.      The roller then rolls the dice and whatever number comes up, that kid move into their first box of his lane. If you are rolling two or more dices together then two children will move forward.  IN case same number shows up on both dices then that child move two spaces.

8.      Who ever reaches the finish line first is the winner.

9.      You can also have relay race variation in this game. Pair up two or more children in a team.

10.  Number the team members as Player1, Player 2 etc

11.  Player1 start the game and runs the race for x number of dice rolls ( lets say 5)

12.  After 5 dice rolls, player 2 replaces player1 and continues the race.

13.  All other rules remain the same. You can also have small baton to add the fun.
